Saturday Reunions

Every fall and spring the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project hosts Saturday Reunions. These Reunions are open to everyone, and usually those numbers are around three thousand. The day starts with keynotes by our favorite authors of professional and children’s literature. These are followed by dozens of one hour workshops designed for the huge audience of educators. Saturday Reunions end with equally wonderful closings, and leave the audience wishing the day would go on forever.

Our next Saturday Reunion will be October 23, 2010. Workshops will be led by our TCRWP Staff Developers and acclaimed educators who always inspire us in our work. Our keynote speaker will be Kate DiCamillo, author of such favorite children's novels as Because of Winn Dixie, The Tiger Rising, The Tale of Despereaux and The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. Read more about what these events are like in our articles about the October 24th and March 20th 2010 Saturday Reunions.

On Saturday, March 19, 2011, thousands of teachers from New York City and around the world will join the entire Project Community for the 80th Saturday Reunion at Teachers College. Keynote speakers will include Jon Scieszka, Stephanie Harvey, and Lucy Calkins. Other major speakers will include Carl Anderson, Kathy Collins, Mary Ehrenworth, Laurie Pessah, and Kathleen Tolan. More than 140 free workshops and speeches will be offered to support teachers’ implementation of reading and writing workshops for grades K-8. Workshop topics will address a variety of topics including: content area literacy, strategic writing conferences, assessment based instruction, writing about reading, and many more.
